Description:
Darren Apolonio is a Fashion Designer, Visual Artist & TV Personality born and raised in Manila Philippines. Growing up as a creative, zany kid, he was trained in the arts in De La Salle- College of Saint Benilde and earned his BA in Multimedia Arts. Initially pursuing visual arts and graphic design as a career, he later started incorporating fashion elements in his work which eventually developed into designing and making clothes for himself. Always the wildcard, Darren yearned for a drastic change, which led him to travel extensively throughout Asia and Europe where he connected with underground subcultures that later defined his design aesthetic: a subversive & contemporary take on, glam punk, pop culture and avant grade art mixed with edgy street wear and youth culture. His journey into fashion started as he attended SCAD in Hong Kong and Savannah, Georgia where he earned his second BA in Fashion, upon his graduation he was featured in Teen Vogue, Fashionista & WWD. The following year, he was approached to audition for the popular American reality tv competition, Project Runway. His charismatic charm and unique point of view led him to be cast on the show’s 19th Season that concluded in 2022. Like much of his personality and designs, Darren’s time on Project Runway was anything but boring. Although he did not win the competition, he’s “quickly become one of the most memorable characters” according to Elle.com. He made his NYFW debut with his Spring Summer 2023 collection that depicted models as glam rockstars inspired by gangsters and delinquents in anime culture. His second collection featured a campy take on traditional glamour as he asks the question: “if a portal to hell opened up in a church during the Met Gala, how would it look like?” He continues to portray fantastical worlds in his works seen in his Spring Summer 2024 collection where “pink-skinned alien rockstars” invade the world through fashion. Darren’s eclectic style and personality continues to grow through his eponymous brand, both now finding a home in New York
